Writing your resume can seem like a daunting task but it is necessary in order to make a good impression on a prospective employer. The goal of your resume is to feature your strengths so your resume stands out from other candidates. The first step is to accumulate your relevant data so you have all information at your fingertips. This may be difficult to do but in order to do this you may need to cull pieces of information that are irrelevant or not useful.  The format of your resume is also very important. You want your resume to highlight your strengths and downplay any weaknesses. If you have a lot of experience and little education, focus more on your work history. If you have not been in the job market for long, focus on your skills and experience.  If you have large gaps in employment history, do not concentrate on dates.  This can be explained later in the interview process.

Organize your resume in a pleasing, easy to read manner. Use a font that is standard and easy to read and print your resume on plain paper stock. Use bold type to separate main sections of the resume so it is easier to scan.
